Car Collection Motorsport’s strong pace goes unrewarded

Car Collection Motorsport showed strong pace at the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup in Portimão, but this went unrewarded due to a collision.

For the first time since 2023, Car Collection Motorsport competed in a GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS outside of the Spa 24 Hours at Portimão. The Walluf-based team fielded a Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo at the Endurance Cup finale in Portimão, driven by Reinhold Krahn, Pietro Armanni and Porsche contracted driver Joel Sturm. The trio competed in the fiercely contested Bronze Cup.

The event attracted global attention thanks to the participation of four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen. Not only did large numbers of fans flock to the undulating circuit on the Algarve coast, but millions more followed the broadcasts on their devices. Posts about the event also reached a wide audience on social media.

The Car Collection Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo showed good pace during the three-hour race, particularly with Porsche contracted driver Sturm at the wheel. However, a collision – which resulted in a puncture and a damaged rim – dashed hopes of a good result in the Bronze Cup. Ultimately, the trio finished 13th in the highly competitive class.

“We were delighted with the pace of our Porsche at Portimão. We were able to show that we could keep up with the pace in the highly competitive Bronze Cup, which we’re very pleased about, as the class is extremely hard-fought. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of time due to the collision and the resulting damage, which dashed our hopes of a good result. Otherwise, it was great to see the media coverage the event generated for us as a team, for our drivers and also for our sponsors! Our participation in Portimão was also an important test ahead of a possible full programme in the series next year, in which we are very interested, as it is the best and strongest GT3 racing series for us,” said team manager Romina Schmidt.
